Import into Editor v2

Use a full-file import when you want to replace the open design, and use paste when you want to add artwork to the current page. Choosing the right route first is the best way to avoid replacing work by mistake.

Prerequisites

• Open the destination file in Editor v2 with edit access.
• Wait for any pending save to finish. Before replacing a document, use Export as JSON from the main menu if you need a separate backup.
• For a Figma paste, copy the smallest useful selection in Figma first.
• For a file import, have a Designful .design file or a JSON file previously exported by Designful.

Steps: paste content into the current page

Paste from Figma

1. In Figma, select the layers you need and copy them.
2. Return to Editor v2 and open the main menu.
3. Open Import, then choose Paste from Figma….
4. Read the clipboard guidance and choose Paste from clipboard.
5. Keep the imported roots selected while you inspect their position, hierarchy, text, fills, and images.
6. If an import report appears, open its details before continuing.

You can also focus the canvas and press Ctrl/⌘ + V. The guided menu route is preferable when you want a clear explanation if clipboard permission is blocked or the clipboard does not contain Figma data.

Paste SVG, images, or text

Copy the supported content, focus the canvas, and paste. SVG artwork is converted where possible so that supported shapes remain editable. Inspect complex paths, masks, fonts, and effects after the paste; a visual match does not always mean every source property is editable.

Steps: replace the open design from a file

1. Open the main menu and choose Import.
2. Choose Import .design for a Designful design file, or Import JSON for a Designful JSON backup.
3. Select the file in the system picker.
4. If Editor v2 warns that the current document will be replaced, confirm only after checking the file name and your backup.
5. After the import, inspect every page, the Layers panel, available fonts, images, connectors, and variables.

A successful full-file import starts the imported document as the new history baseline. Do not expect Undo to return to the document that was replaced.

Read the import report

Figma imports may finish with one of these results:

• Success means the imported objects did not produce conversion warnings.
• Degraded means useful content was imported, but one or more layers, paints, fonts, vectors, or layouts need review.
• Failed means no supported visible content could be added.

The report belongs to the current editing session. Review it while it is open, because it is not a permanent document record.

Recovery

• If clipboard access is denied, allow clipboard access for the site or paste directly with the keyboard shortcut.
• If Editor v2 says the clipboard contains no Figma data, copy the selection again in Figma rather than copying a screenshot or an exported preview.
• If a large selection fails, copy and import smaller sections. This also makes warnings easier to match to their source layers.
• If fonts are substituted, make the required fonts available, reopen the file if needed, and check text wrapping before export.
• If the report says Degraded, keep the imported result only after checking the named layers. Rebuild unsupported effects or vector details in Editor v2.
• If a full-file import is rejected, the open document should remain unchanged. Correct the file or choose the right backup, then try again.
• If you imported the wrong document, reopen your exported JSON backup. A replacement import cannot be reversed across its new history baseline.

Current limitations

• Figma conversion is best-effort. Some paint combinations, blend modes, vector networks, masks, fonts, and responsive layout details may be simplified or skipped.
• An import report describes the current session; it is not stored as a named version or permanent audit record.
• New file is currently unavailable inside Editor v2. Create the destination from the Projects page, then open it before importing.
• Duplicate current file is currently unavailable inside Editor v2. Use a duplication option outside the editor when your workspace provides one, or export JSON and import it into a separately created destination.
